ERBIL — A Kurdish MP in Baghdad has insisted that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) will not visit Baghdad as it is disappointed at the central government’s willingness to address disputes.
MP Tariq Gardi told BasNews that the Iraqi central government puts the KRG under pressure, even threatening Erbil that it would deploy troops to the Kurdistan Region’s “front door”. The KRG, as a result, has no trust in the Iraqi government and will continue selling oil in a semi-independent way.
He expects the KRG’s financial situation to improve by March 2016 as oil price in international markets is likely to increase.
Gardi said that KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani believes that even if the KRG exports 700,000 barrels of oil per a day, instead of the current 550,000 bpd, the Iraqi government will not be able nor willing to send Erbil’s share of the federal budget.
“Barzani will not visit Baghdad until he is assured of Iraq’s full commitment to resolve the disputes.”
