IRAN — Kurdish opposition parties are discussing the resumption of military activities against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In an interview with the Turkish Anadolu Agency, the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party-Iran (KDPI) accuses the Iranian government of having ulterior motives behind its interventions in Iraq.
Azizi insists that Iran and the US respectively control the ground and airspace of Iraq.
Regarding recent military confrontations between Iranian Kurdish opposition parties and the Iranian army, Azizi said that Kurds never intended to create violence, but they have been defending themselves whenever the Iranian army has initiated conflict.
He claimed that along with thousands of armed Peshmerga forces in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, the KDPI has a large number of armed members inside Iran, and they are able to conduct military activities against the government in Tehran. “However, we are still discussing the issue.”
Azizi explained that they have never stopped fighting for Kurdish rights in Iran, but they have switched their policies from military activities to other forms of struggle.
However, Azizi continued, the KDPI may not resume military activities if the Iranian government provides ground for political discourse in the country.
