SINJAR - Peshmerga Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Jamal Mohammed has accused the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) of attempting to establish a unit of fighters under the command of Shi'ite militia group Hashd al-Shaabi in Sinjar.

Mohammed revealed to BasNews that the Iraqi government, in cooperation with the PKK and Democratic Union Party (PYD), is planning to form the unit in the recently-liberated town of Sinjar outside of the control of the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga ministry.

He insisted that such forces would not be permitted.

The Kurdistan Region’s leadership is aware of the issue, Mohammed said.

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) politburo member, Haider Shasho previously tried to implement a similar plan but was ordered to stop by the Peshmerga Ministry.
