ERBIL – A Kurdish MP has succeed in releasing four Kurdish drivers who were kidnapped by Shi’ite militia Hashd al-Shaabi. Their release followed his meeting with the Iraqi Defence Minister.
Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) member of Iraqi parliament Adil Nouri told BasNews on Tuesday that the release of the four kidnapped Kurdish drivers by Hashdi al-Shaabi militia followed after his meeting with Minister Khaled al-Obaidi.
“Thank God that the drivers were freed, and safely returned to Kurdistan Region,” said Nouri.
Hashd al-Shaabi militias kidnapped the drivers in southern Iraq, and took them to an unknown location.
Kurds in southern Iraq often face death threats and insults. Kidnapping by Shi’ite militia groups and Sunni extremists is common, merely for being Kurds. Kurds are regularly accused of having ties with Israel, leading to being labeled “infidels”.
