KIRKUK – the Kurdish official and Peshmerga Commander in southern Kirkuk Province Hussein Yazdanpanah claims that Iran plans to widen its influence in the area by taking control of Kirkuk and Mosul in northern Iraq.
Yazdanpanah, also the Secretary General of the Iranian Kurdistan Freedom Party (KFP), told BasNews, “As a beginning of its plan, Iran wants to take control of Tuz Khurmatu Town in southern Kirkuk.”
“Iran wants to do that as an answer to the successful operation of Kurdish Peshmerga forces in liberating Sinjar Town [in northern Iraq],” he said.
Yazdanpanah also mentioned that the high commander of the Iranian Quds Force directly supervises Shi’ite militia Hashd al-Shaabi operations in the Tuz Khurmatu area.
“The Quds Force commander has stationed 23 snipers on tall buildings in Tuz Khurmatu to carefully watch over the incidents among Hashd al-Shaabi militia and Kurdish forces,” he went further.
He stressed that Iran has a plan to increase its hegemony on Kirkuk and Mosul areas and put them completely under its control.
