SYRIAN KURDISTAN — Politburo member of the Kurdish United Party in Syrian Kurdistan Nawaf Rashid has claimed that the political situation and people’s daily life in Syrian Kurdistan have started to show improvements since his party took a greater role.

In an exclusive interview with BasNews, Rashid said that the rate of emmigration has significantly decreased in Syrian Kurdistan, better known as Rojava in Kurdish. He believes that Syrian Kurds are now optimistic at home, and want to have a say in determining their future.

The Kurdish United Party was a regular critic of the Kurdish National Council (ENKS) before they took lead of the council. Sharif claimed that the criticisms were to push the council to provide further services to the people and create a better political atmosphere.

Regarding regular demonstrations taking place in Syrian Kurdistan, Rashid explained that they avoid violence against other Kurdish political parties, “and the ENKS arranges peaceful demonstrations to put forward their demands.”

He rejected allegations accusing the Kurdish United Party of being funded by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). “We have attempted to maintain a balance in our relations with political parties in Iraqi Kurdistan; but obviously a national project by the Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani brought us close with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).”

Rashid confirmed that many Syrian Kurds have migrated to the EU.

He blamed the Democratic Union Party (PYD) for the arrest of several members of the Kurdish United Party and closing two of their political offices across Syrian Kurdistan.
