QAMISHLI – Saleh Muslim, co-president of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Syria, said in an exclusive interview with ARA News: “We do not recognize any military force under the name of Rojava’s Peshmerga (dissident Kurdish soldiers from the Syrian Amy who have been trained in Iraqi Kurdistan).”

“We do not recognize any armed force under such a name,” Muslim said.

“We only recognize the Ministry of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in the Kurdistan region of Iraq and officially deal with it,” he added.

Muslim’s remarks came on the sidelines of the Sixth Conference of the PYD party which has been held recently in the city of Rumelan in Hasakah province.

PYD’s 6th Conference

“Our party’s Sixth Conference is a periodical one that’s held per three years, according to the party’s internal regulations,” Muslim told ARA News.

In the conference, members reviewed the party’s policies and projects for future, according to Muslim.

“It is very important for the conference to be held on time, because we experience a sensitive and decisive stage in the Middle East, Syria and the Kurdish region in particular.”

“The Kurdish areas undergo a devastative war against terrorists of the Islamic State (ISIS),” Muslim said, pointing out that the conference was held amid participation of prominent Kurdish figures from the Kurdistan region of Iraq represented by delegations from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

Roadmap for Solution in Syria

He added that the PYD-led Auto-Administration project will be circulated to other areas in Syria.

“Our experience will be a roadmap leading to a political solution for the Syrian crisis,” he argued.

Concluding his interview with ARA News, Muslim explained that they promised the UN envoy to Syria, Steffan de Mistura, to support him and play a significant role in the potential Syria’s transitional phase.

In the sixth conference of the party, the PYD members re-elected both Saleh Muslim and Asia Abdullah as co-presidents to the leadership of the party.

Remarkably, the PYD (known as the Syrian wing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party ‘PKK’) is the main party in the Kurdish areas of Syria. It is accused by rival Kurdish parties of monopolizing power and having links with the Syrian regime.
